Due to a backlog, Tar Wolf Review is closed to new submissions of poetry until 2009.

Submissions

We consider submissions year-round from both established and emerging writers and artists. Previous contributors may also submit year-round, but their work will not appear in consecutive issues. In this way, we hope to make room for those who are new to our pages and for those whose work we already admire.

Poetry: Interested in narrative and lyric free verse and poetry that experiments with language without losing meaning. Will consider traditional forms or rhyming poetry only if the poet has done something fresh and intriguing. Not interested in pornography, pointless obscenities or sentimental greeting card verse.

To submit*:

Send 3-5 typed poems that have never been published (this includes on web sites). No poem should exceed 90 lines. Include name, address, phone #, and e-mail address on each page. No e-mail submissions. Unused submissions will be recycled unless return requested in cover letter. We accept simultaneous submissions, but please notify the poetry editor immediately if your work has been accepted for publication elsewhere. Multiple submissions will be returned unread.

Include a brief cover letter with a bio of 40 or fewer words.

Also include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for response. Submissions sent without a SASE will not be considered. If you request that your work be returned, please include adequate postage.

Editor responds within 5 months.

Artwork/Photography: Interested in photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, fibers, mixed media, collage, and calligraphy--all subjects, styles and media. We accept prints or photos (no larger than 8.5" x 11"), but you may also send images saved on CD as .tif or .jpg files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Our full page dimensions are approximately 7" x 8.5". Our only other stipulation is that the work is intriguing.

To Submit*:

Send 3-5 pieces in any of the following formats: print ( 8½" x 11" or smaller), photograph, CD or e-mail. Send only low-resolution images by e-mail. Editor will request larger files if interested. Do not send original or only copy. The editor does not want previously published work.

Include a brief cover letter with bio of 40 or fewer words.

Also include a SASE with sufficient postage.

Editor responds in 1 month.

*A note about professionalism: We know what it is like to submit our own work for others' scrutiny and, since becoming editors, have gained a greater understanding of the importance of following submission guidelines. Please do not send us more than the 3-5 poems or pieces specified in our guidelines. While most people do observe this request, some still send us so much in one submission that it barely fits in the envelope. Multiple submissions (sending more than one batch of poems or sending more poems before a response has been given to the first submission) are also problematic. Following the guidelines helps us to continue reading and responding to your work in a professional and timely manner.

Payment: Contributors will receive at least 1 copy of the issue in which their work appears.
